When asked about which countries that may be placed under his next travel ban, he replied "Wouldn't that be a stupid thing for me to say?".

Adding, "NOBODY expects My Travel Ban! Our chief weapon is surprise ... surprise and fear ... fear and surprise .... Our two weapons are fear and surprise ... and ruthless efficiency .... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency ... and an almost fanatical devotion to the Putin."

I am a digital #artist working in #krita, making work with a somewhat subconcious process, featuring strange ethereal beings, demons, and wizards. I am inspired by #weird #SciFi and #fantasy art of the 1970s and 80s, perhaps not unrelated to my love of #ProgRock and #HeavyMetal and #psychedelic music

I boost art that I enjoy, and I hope you will too :))

Don’t say (Enola) Gay
The #Trump admini’s #DEI purge has gotten truly #weird.
In the late 1930s, a young man named Paul Tibbets decided he wanted to fly airplanes for the US Army, which his…father disapproved of but his mother encouraged—“Paul, if you want to go fly airplanes, you’re going to be all right,”…& yrs later, when he piloted the drop of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima that ushered in the horrible end of WWII, he did so in a plane he named after his…mom: #EnolaGay.

Biscuit Boxkite (Isoxya tabulata), belongs to the genus Isoxya. Box kite spiders (Isoxya) is a genus of Afrotropical orb-weaver spiders. It typically preys on other arthropods and does not directly affect plants, distributed in Central, Eastern, Southern Africa. It can adjust the tension and stickiness of its web, optimizing it to capture specific prey at different times.

"A standardized lexicon of body odor words crafted from 17 countries"

... and yet my grade school science project on which dish detergents work better (which is to be presented to numerous parents during the science fair) gets a C-. Go figure.

NatureA standardized lexicon of body odor words crafted from 17 countries - Scientific DataBody odors offer a unique window into the physiological and psychological profile of the emitter. This information, broadcast in nonverbal communication, significantly shapes social interactions. However, effectively digitizing body odors requires a precise framework for perceptual operationalization. Previous research has used a very limited number of verbal terms, such as pleasant, intense, or attractive, which fails to adequately capture qualitative differences. To address this gap, we elicited body odor descriptions from 2,607 participants across 17 countries and 13 languages. All these descriptions are presented here in one dataset, together with a condensed list of 25 body odor words (BOW). Those terms reliably differentiated between body states, and were validated in a separate study with a different group of 155 perceivers. The dataset, available as a web application, provides a novel operationalization of body odor impressions, which is a precondition for studying olfaction in human nonverbal communication, for perception-based digitization of body odors and for comparative studies.

Hello everyone! 👋👋👋

I've just joined the Fediverse, and I chose @zirk.us bc I'm most interested in #literature and the arts more broadly. I also created a #reading account via #Bookwyrm @d-integration, and a Fediverse-supported #blog (launching today) for my writings at @weaver@d-integration.org.

I'm most interested in #SpeculativeFiction, especially #SciFi and the #Weird, #ArabLit, #SocialCritique, #CriticalTheory, #Philosophy, and all things #Surreal and/or #reality breaking.

After burial mounds, moats are the most common archaeological feature in the British landscape. There are at least five-and-a-half thousand, not only surrounding castles, but also dug around manor houses, monasteries, farms, chapels and even windmills. Moats had several functions - defence, keeping out thieves, deterring wildlife, acting as firebreaks, and being status symbols. The country's deepest moat is said to be at Nunney, Somerset - folklore claims it is bottomless. #history #archaeology #psychogeography #folklore #weird #geography #landscape

Some *conservatives*, including #ElonMusk & #JDVance, have fixated on America’s declining birthrate, viewing it as catastrophic for the national economy as retired people start to outnumber younger workers, & reflective of eroding family values. But it remains unclear how directing more #transportation funding to areas w/higher birth & marriage rates would reverse the trend.

This one’s just plain #weird

The day after #SeanDuffy was confirmed as #Trump’s transportation secretary, he signed a memo dictating how federal #transportation funds should be allocated.

The list of new criteria included one directive that stood out: All of the department’s grant & loan programs should prioritize projects in “communities with marriage & birthrates higher than the national average,” to the extent allowed by #law.

A medieval German-Jewish legend tells of a man who decided to make a violin out of a piece of wood intended for a coffin. The corpse appeared to him in a dream, begging him to desist, but the man went ahead. He soon fell terribly ill. The man's malady continued until his son chopped up another musical instrument, burnt it and scattered the ashes over the corpse's grave. #folklore #death #paranormal #graveyard #gothic #medieval #art #weird
