Mask bans already exist in certain States and counties.

Vance spearheaded a federal ban on mask mandates.

Organizing to codify the right to wear medical masks and respirators is (sadly) needed.

Masking is community care and resistance.

Illinois attempting to codify right to mask into law:

The Trump regime deported a kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University, despite the fact that she had a valid visa.

Transplant specialists are one of the most in demand and difficult specialty. They can’t be easily replaced.

The cruelty is the point.

Perhaps most alarming is the fact that a court order was issued to prevent her deportation, and she was deported anyway.

Trump and his cronies are actively defying court orders. They’re acting outside the law.

The billionaire oligarch who bought the Presidency spends his days on X calling for the arrest and removal of judges who try and block Trump from doing whatever he wants.

This is fascism. The courts are a necessary part of the checks and balances that keep a democracy functioning.

The US is rapidly running out of time to save their democracy.

Stand up. Speak out. Protest. Divest from businesses run by Trump and Musk. Vote with your dollar. Resist in whatever way you can.

Do not go gently.

To any and all Americans stating that the rhetoric around annexing Canada are "just words" and we should "get over it"; know that your words and your actions have consequences. We've lost trust. For many of us it was thin to begin with. We've lived by you for a long time. We Know Who You Are. "I didn't vote for him". Too bad, he's in. What are you going to do about it now? If the answer is "nothing" then our answer's simple. You're in bed with him, you get the same treatment.

Interesting dichotomy between comments from (anti-Trump) Americans and Canadians:

Americans: "Another court ruling went against Trump's orders! If Tesla shares get down to $120, Musk is fucked! We're winning!"

Canadians: "Any US Trumpists thinking they can take Canada, bullet right in the forehead fuckers."

A ten year old girl recovering from brain cancer was deported to Mexico and prevented from attending her necessary follow up appointment

She was a U.S. citizen, but it didn’t matter.

The cruelty is the point.

I hope this sweet kiddo can access the care she needs to make a full recovery, and shame on those ICE agents who thought this was “ok”

This is why we speak out. Unspeakable horrors are happening all around us and if we stay silent, it will change us.

Don’t stay silent. Resist.

To the United Statesians thinking that annexing Canada is funny or a good idea.
- - -
I really hate the thought of even writing this.

But it’s time to be abundantly clear. That idea of invading Canada might have been funny… the first time… in the 1770s.

But, wake the fuck up! We’re in 2025, not in the 1770s.

Your government is ruining the relationships with its own partners and allies. Today, you started a trade war on the World, including Australia, the European Union, Mexico, the United Kingdom. That’s on top of the one with Canada and Mexico from last week.
You will pay for that trade war, because that’s how tariffs work. There’s another way to call them: import taxes.

On top of that, your government doing way worse, your government is threatening to invade Canada, Greenland and Panama.
How would you feel if YOUR next door neighbour - Mr. Smith - decided to take YOUR OWN house, make it THEIRS and YOU don’t have a say in it. Let that sink in. Would YOU be okay with that? That's what you're threatening us with.

You know Canadians’ reputation for being calm and polite, usually going their merry way. Today, Canadians are rightfully angry, we are actually fucking pissed. And yet, you don't understand our reaction when we boo your national anthem?
We chose to have our own home, our own country - it’s democratic, independent, sovereign, strong and free. It was and it is OUR rightful decision to make, not yours.
It tries its hardest to do the best it can to support its population. It’s not perfect, make no mistake - we have many things to be rightfully ashamed for, but we work on ourselves almost every day.

So, to voice our anger:
- Yes, we will boo your anthem.
- Yes, we will not buy your goods.
- Yes, we will avoid stepping foot on your side of the border.
- Yes, we are fighting back and continue doing so.
- No, we won’t give up.
- No, you won’t take Canada, Greenland or Panama.

AND IF YOU STILL THINK THIS IS WHOLE THING IS A JOKE... NO, WE DO NOT FIND THIS FUCKING FUNNY AT ALL! IT HAS NEVER BEEN FUNNY TO US!

No one fucking wants any of this, because there will be no winners on any side. You will suffer, we will suffer.

Sincerely,
—This Really Angry and Annoyed Canadian

The mother of a Canadian woman illegally detained by ICE at the U.S. border wants to know when her daughter will be released.

The U.S. is not safe for anyone. Do not travel there.

“We eventually learned that about 30 people, including Jasmine, were removed from their cells at 3 a.m. and transferred to the San Luis Detention Center in Arizona. They are housed together in a single concrete cell with no natural light, fluorescent lights that are never turned off, no mats, no blankets, and limited bathroom facilities.”

A Canadian is now being held indefinitely by ICE

The US views Canadians as enemies now, not friends and neighbours

It is not safe to travel to the U.S. Please go elsewhere, it’s simply not worth the risk.

“My daughter, Jasmine, a 35-year-old Canadian, attempted to enter the U.S. on March 3, 2025, with a consulting visa for a company in the States.

Unfortunately, her visa was denied, and she was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the San Ysidro border crossing, where she was held for three nights”

As a citizen of the United States, after hearing more and more stories like this I have to say it's probably best if people don't travel here. ICE has been bad from day one (created-post 9/11) but it's like horror stories from the Soviet Union I remember hearing as a kid now. It doesn't matter if you are coming from countries MAGA considers "good" like this German lady or "bad" ones. It doesn't matter if you have your documents in order and your nose clean. No one is safe from this sort of secret police style treatment. I'm sorry half my country voted for these monsters and cheer this shit on. We've failed ourselves and the rest of the planet. #uspoli #rant

In 1890, the Tariff Act came into place in the United States. It placed tariffs on imports of up to 50%.

While touted as a way to build American industry, there was also the hope it would force an annexation of Canada. It backfired. Let's learn more.

Put forward by William McKinley, who was a Congressman at that point, the Tariff Act put duties across imports ranging from 38% to 49.5%.

McKinley was called the Napoleon of Protection. While some items had tariffs eliminated, most had tariffs increased.

One reason for the tariffs was to force the annexation of Canada. The McKinley Tariff declined to make an exception for Canadian products.

It was hoped this would make Canada more reliant on the US market, and push Canadians to become the 45th state.

Secretary of State James G. Blaine believed that annexation would eliminate competition with Canada over fishing and timber rights. Blane co-authored the Tariff Act.

He stated of annexation: "a grander and nobler brotherly love, that may unite in the end”

British politician Lyon Playfair saw the Tariff Act for what it was. He called it a covert attack on Canada.

Both Britain and the United States believed the Tariff Act would drive Canada to join the United States.

In reality, it had the complete opposite result.

The Tariff Act instead pushed Canada to align itself more with Britain. People began to rally behind their "love for Queen, flag, and country".

Sir John A. Macdonald used the tariffs as a rallying cry in the 1891 election and was able to win another majority government.

Within two years of the Tariff Act being passed, agricultural exports to Britain from Canada went from $3.5 million to $15 million.

Produce and animal exports to Britain grew from $16 million to $24 million during that same period.

I was listening to a podcast on Trump's dismantling of the Department of Education (might have been The Daily) and related topics, and I heard one of the commentators refer to Betsy DeVos as a "billionaire philanthropist."
Glad I wasn't drinking milk.

I guess that's another term we can add to the list of oxymorons, like "jumbo shrimp" and "military intelligence."

For years, folks looked the other way as millions died or became disabled by Covid. They shouted “your health is not my responsibility” or “only the vulnerable” were at risk.

This callous disregard for human life has desensitized us. It helped pave the way for the current atrocities.

You can’t label a group of people expendable and not have it change you.

You can’t turn away in the face of evil and not pay a price.

Wear a mask. Protect one another. Resist.

Stand up for anyone & everyone who’s different than you. Fight for their rights.

Don’t wait until it happens to you.

It's unheard of for moderate Canadian PMs to speak like this about the USA:

“The Americans want our resources, our water, our land, our country,” [incoming PM Mark] Carney said. “Think about it. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life.”

During his farewell speech, [PM Justin] Trudeau said Canada is in a nation-defining moment. “Democracy is not a given. Freedom is not a given. Even Canada is not a given,” he said.

“I’ve got a visa, I’m fine”

“I’ve got a green card, I don’t need to worry”

“I’m white so they won’t care”

The current U.S. regime has embraced fascism. No one is safe.

Stand up for the marginalized people most at risk. It’s the right thing to do, and sooner than later you will be the target

Understand that they’re conditioning people to accept the unacceptable. They’re starting with trans people, Palestinians and disabled people because they know most people will look the other way.

When you look the other way in the face of evil, it changes you.

Do not comply. Resist now.

A second German tourist was held in a detention centre after having his Visa revoked by the U.S.

Sielaff is back in Germany after being held for two weeks without cause or explanation.

Jessica Brösche, a German tattoo artist who spent 8 days in solitary confinement without a pillow or a blanket, is still being held. She’s been detained for six weeks.

The U.S. is not a safe place to travel anymore.

Vote with your dollars (and your feet!) and go literally anywhere else.

This is especially applicable to my fellow Canadians. Don’t risk your freedom or support the economy of a country whose leader is threatening to annex us.
