Doodle 🏳️‍🌈<p>Just fixed a pretty nasty bug with my <a href="https://equestria.social/tags/godot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>godot</span></a> project. Basically, get_tree() was returning null even though the new level was fully loaded and running just fine. It was only when I collected an item and the game had to save, which is when get_tree() got called, that it crashed because it returned null.</p><p>But then that was only half the problem. The other half was that somehow, a signal I'd connected on a different level was still active -- even though it was on a node that was a child of the level that was previously freed (I checked in the Remote tab -- that scene was totally gonzo).</p><p>It feels like it *might* be a bug, but either way, I was able to alleviate it by disconnecting the signal as soon as I no longer needed it to be connected, and I'm pretty sure that was somehow why get_tree() was returning null...and again...that makes no sense to me because I was playing the game in a scene which was very much part of the scene tree...yet somehow not.</p>
