The wealthy who own property on the Florida coast are the same people who voted for these cuts. Their fanatical desire for lower taxes at all costs won't help when the next hurricane rips away the shoreline and drowns their homes. #environment

The EPA is rolling back environmental regulation, but most Americans support climate policies, study finds

A reminder of what the Bay looked like before environmental regulation—open dumping of industrial waste, raw sewage, and fuel, and constant oil spills.

Before EPA and laws like the Clean Water Act, America's waters were choked with pollution. Ohio's Cuyahoga River, which became a symbol of environmental degradation in the 60s, was so polluted that it repeatedly caught fire.

Today, it's estimated that the #CleanWaterAct alone prevents 700 *billion* pounds of toxic pollution from entering US waters every single year.

We MUST defend these vital laws and institutions.

This is it! Hurrah!! Today is the big day!!!

If you're a United Statesian like me, today is the day — March 13, 2025 — when we have reached our country's maximum annual allotment of ecological consumption. If everyone on Earth lived like we do in the USA, there would now be nothing left to consume for the rest of the year. It would be all used up.

So, as of tomorrow, everyone here will stop driving, stop flying, stop shopping online, and...

Wait, what? That's not how it works? We're not going to stop??

Oh shit.

If you are caught cutting down the Amazon Rainforest illegally, chances are you will get off without being required to pay for the environmental damage. According to a recent report, only 5% of offenders have paid court-ordered fines for deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.

It may not look like much, but the light coloring on this little piece of filter paper is around 2 billion marine bacteria. While I've been out sailing along Line P, I'm trapping bacteria on these slips of paper by pumping water through the tiny little holes in the paper that are smaller than the bacteria but large enough for water to slip through. Once I get these to the lab, I can pop the bacteria open to collect their DNA and see who lives in the water and what they can do.
