There are no sidewalks along my route to physio which means that on days like today, every vehicle which passes me sprays me with slush. I wish cities weren't so car-centric. I should be able to get to my appointments without having to jump into the ditch whenever a vehicle is close by. This is bullshit. Also, the city should plow the sidewalks and intersections. If I needed a wheelchair or a walker, I wouldn't be able to manage at all. #Walkability #CarCulture #sidewalks @waterlooregion #accessibility

Parking requirements are often weird and arbitrary - and are a waste of space in a future where people can't afford either cars, insurance, or gasoline.

"Even at a glance, these ratios seem arbitrary...There’s no satisfying answer, and the randomness is, if anything, a testament to the pseudoscience that underpins minimums...the space dedicated to parking has easily eclipsed the size of the establishments themselves."

Past generations had it right - other than industrial uses, everything should be walkable.

We need to return to an older, more sustainable model - where the professional or artisan has their office(s) / shop on the first floor of their beautiful arts & crafts or Victorian style building, and the family lives upstairs.

Relocalization is the future. #HOAs & residential segregation are dinosaurs.

An article about infill development that's outside the brownfield box. There are myriads of ways to design small lots with good homes on them, provide ADUs & ABUs in residential areas, and improve urban density considerably - as well as providing more affordable housing & entrepreneurial spaces, reducing commuting, and pollution.
