@BalooUriza @dilans

Many people would be screwed in my country without churches. They might be assholes but the literally save lives.

@jcast I feel like it's a bit of a wash, especially in the US where evangelicals have been adding gasoline to political violence.

@dilans @BalooUriza "they're doing overall good for the world" is a matter of opinion, one I disagree with

And there are plenty of people who genuinely do help others out of a religious motivation, but also don't try to make their help contingent on pushing their beliefs on others

People are absolutely allowed to bring attention to the ways they disagree with Salvation Army's tactics and inform others of their behavior, including sharing the opinion that they don't qualify as a charity. This is in no way forcing views on anyone at all

@dilans There is not a spectrum from homosexuality to pedophilia on which to draw a line, you utter dick.

@BalooUriza The Salvation Army is NOT a charity: They are an evangelical Protestant church that uses donated money to *actively oppress gay rights*. They have threatened to close tens of thousands of New York soup kitchens if they are forced to adhere to civil rights laws when dealing with gay employees. They spend your money lobbying governments to prevent LGBTQ rights legislation. Please research a charity before giving! Happy holidays.

@BalooUriza
And the Starvation Army, they play
And they sing and they clap and they pray
Till they get all your coin on the drum
Then they tell you when you're on the bum

You will eat, bye and bye
In that glorious land above the sky
Work and pray, live on hay
You'll get pie in the sky when you die

@BalooUriza @thegibson

A useful follow up to add: Angel Tree is a gimmick by the Salvation Army used by the charity runners as a personal duty free gift shop when not used to try to shame/guilt/bribe the poor to better fit the church’s beliefs.

@BalooUriza
"In 2004, the Salvation Army said that it would close operations in New York City unless it was exempted from a municipal ordinance requiring them to offer benefits to gay employees' partners."

> this didn't happen
> link to wiki specifically to the point where it says it happened

(not really replying to you baloo i'm just removing the other person from the mentions and pointing this out for the sake of anyone else reading this thread)
